Camp NaNoWriMo
Holy crap donkeys on radioactive scooters from Pluto!
It’s the official start of Camp NaNoWriMo !!
Yeah, I know…what kind of mad bastard would not only take part in the original NaNo but also complete 50,000 words in a month in the height of summer as well!!?
You’re looking at him.
In fact you’re looking at an even crazier bastard than the “mad bastard who would not only take part in the original NaNo but also complete 50,000 words in a month in the height of summer as well”…you’re looking at the “crazier bastard than the mad bastard who would not only take part in the original NaNo but also complete 50,000 words in a month in the height of summer as well, but also try and finish the August Camp NaNo as well”
Still following?
For those who don’t know about Camp NaNoWriMo , it’s basically a summer version of the original National Novel Writing Month challenge that takes place in November.
For those of you who don’t know about the original NaNo…go look it up!
The Camp version of the challenge runs in both July AND August, offering people the chance to choose which month they want to participate in. Now, I’ve been following news of Camp NaNo for a while now, but for some strange reason I completely missed the news about the start date (only found out yesterday). So I’m finding out about this at the same time as you are, unless of course you already knew and you were just holding out on me?
So, yeah…erm the challenge has started. Bugger. I suppose I better think about what I’m going to write. I’ve had another horror novel idea mulling over in my head for a while now, and just recently came up with a cracking thriller idea (even if I do say so myself), so I’m going to have to choose between the two.
Well, at the very least which one to do in July or which one to do in August. Or is that just plain silly? Should I start one in July and carry it through to August? That would give me a 100k finished draft in two months…which would be nice.
So, are there any other mad crazy bastard types out there that are taking on the Camp NaNoWriMo challenge?
Feel free to add me as a camper buddy – Me at camp!

Hi Steve,
I'm in!
I must be mad, as this month's a mad busy one already, but I'll give it a whirl.
May need some help, bud. How do you get one of those WIP word counts thingies…?
Good luck., mate.
Cheers,
Col
Wahey, another mad bastard!
Being busy with other stuff is half the fun of nano!
I just stuck a bit of code in one of the gadget templates for the word counter. You want me to email the code over?
Yeah,
I've sent you another message on the NaNo site.
Cheers,
MB2!
I'm incredibly happy to meet another lunatic who clearly enjoys self-torture and crazy-making activities. Keep me posted on your progress. Love your blog. 🙂
