Appy-polly-loggies…

…I was supposed to be keeping you up to date with my progress on Camp NaNoWriMo.
With original NaNo I regularly updated my blog with ‘interesting’ and ‘useful’ articles on my progress and posts about reaching word counts and keeping motivated…yeah, that ain’t going to happen with Camp NaNo. I’m having a hard enough time with my own word count, let alone keeping all you lazy bums motivated!!
I started well, managing the daily word count fairly early on – but its all gone downhill from there. I’m around 5,000 words behind schedule and it’s not looking like I’ll catch up anytime soon. The good news is I’m consistently 5,000 words behind, which means the problem isn’t getting any worse!
I’m not worried about failing the count, during last year’s NaNo I did 10k in one night so I’m fairly confident I can pick up the slack when I need too.
I’m working through my novel in order so far, I’ve never been one for completing random chapters and mixing and matching. I like to start at the beginning and work my way through to the end. It’s working well so far. The start of the novel is taking shape and it’s giving me enough useful stuff to carry on without losing momentum.
I’ve stuck around the first four chapters for now and keep going back to pad out the work, adding details here and there when I decide I need to explain things a bit more. At the moment I’m pretty much learning what the book is about as I write it.
I’ve also began research, particularly disgusting for this one, and I’m compiling a list of things I need to know to carry on into chapter five and beyond. As much as some people like to say research should come after a first draft, there are particular bits of info that I need to know in order to progress my story…no useful books in the library for this one so its all internet research for now. Although I’m considering ringing up some companies to ask for details (first time I’ve had to do that, so it could be fun!).
Right, enough govoreet I’m off to grab a pint of milk-plus and make up my rassoodock about what to write!
Catchyalatereh!

  1. How was I so unaware that Camp NaNoWriMo existed? Are tents involved?

Anyway – good work. Keep it up, etc.

Hey – I write random chapters and mix and match and works out okay for me… Sort of.

Honestly though, do you not finding writing in a linear way kind of daunting? Like "what the hell? What is the ending going to be? I need to figure it out hella quick!!"

  2. 10,000 in a night? Bloody'ell, Steve!

    Stick at it, mate!

    I'm onto it now…

    Laters,

  3. Writing in a tent? Not sure that would work for me. Okay. Just kidding. I do know it's not a real tent.

You can catch up with the word count; you're great at doing those mammoth word sessions!
