Brainstorming NaNo

Twelve days until NaNoWriMo starts and I’m still unsure which idea to go with. I have three possible stories to choose from, all of which have invaded my brain over the past few weeks. As I’m so busy trying to get my current novel finished before November starts I haven’t had chance to brainstorm any of these potential plots.

This is good and bad, good because I can start afresh for NaNo (as per the rules) but bad because I have no idea if any of the ideas will go further than a few thousand words.

I suppose I could be reeaaallly silly and try writing multiple ideas until I know one of them is going somewhere? The problem with that fruit loop of an idea is that I’d have to write the daily word count for each of the stories so I’d have enough material for the ‘winner’ when the others didn’t pan out.

Either that or I can just throw a dart at three pieces of paper and see where it lands.

I’ve put the working title of one of my ideas on my NaNo profile page, just picked at random from the pile of ideas. Maybe I should take that as a sign and just go with that idea?

This is far too many maybes for one post.

In other NaNo related news the Leeds kick off party has been organised. Because some people couldn’t make it the official party we’re having an extra one so everyone gets a chance to meet each other 😀

Great idea from the Leeds moderator, kitty-wake.

I’m just itching to get started now, roll on November 1st!

  1. Hmm, I think that idea of trying to write three at once is a little off the charts, even for you! I like the throwing darts idea… Or slightly brainstorming so as not to interfere with your pre-November novel. Incidentally, I’m doing the same thing. Whether I participate or not, I’m desperate to get this current first draft finished before November. How many words have you left to write on this one?

  2. By the way things are panning out now, I’d say around 10k before it naturally resolves itself.
Perfectly feasible but I seem to have a knack for overcomplicating things or creating extra problems when I come so close to finishing a project.
Just need to get some bum-glue and get on with it and I can relax for a few days (hours?) before NaNo starts.

  3. ‘Bum glue’ gave me some quite vivid images I refuse to share with anyone. I think your relaxation time before NaNo may be down to a few minutes on the 31st October as midnight approaches.
