Nano: Day 14 – Halfway? It’s nowhere near the 15th, it’s only the…oh crap!
Almost the halfway point…[tap tap tap]…which…[tap tap]…means, ummm…[tap tap tap tap]…which means…where was I?
Sorry, I’m [tap tap] trying desperately to catch up with my nano word count. You don’t mind if I alternate blog posting [tap tappity tap] with writing my novel, do you?
Ok, so by midnight tomorrow we should all be on 25,000 words. That’s a lot of words, and congratulations to anyone that’s made it already! I’m sure there are lots of you.
I’m not one of them…
I currently have…ummm…just over 15k, which isn’t good at all. It’s been a very busy weekend and I haven’t had chance to add a single word to my WIP.
The writer in me is happy I’ve written that much, the OCD dude in me kicking me up the arse to keep up with the suggested word count. I think we’ll have to compromise; I’ll get the 25k but maybe not by Monday, that way OCD guy can still be happy when I have 50k on the 30th.
So I’m [tap tap] buggering off now to [checks thesaurus] write some more words for nano. I might check in later tonight. I might not.

Running from behind is the best way to beat the early sprinters. As I gave up a week ago I shouldn't offer advice to anyone else but good luck!

Try brainstorming, Steven. Just shut yourself away with earphones on and the light off and write anything and everything that comes into your head, relevant to the story or not. Go mad on descriptions. All the purple prose you're not supposed to write normally – have a ball.
Another thing is never delete anything, even if you have to rewrite and know it's rubbish. I did this recently. Use strike-through instead of delete so you don't lose the word count.

I started tackling my poor word count last night and have jumped from 15,683 to 19,269 in just 16 hours. I'm hoping to get 20k before I leave work and then have a damn good try and getting 25k before midnight!
