Unalive™ and kicking

Another quick update just to prove I am alive…or at least unalive
I’ve recently finished a short story, which should be published in an e-zine in about a month’s time…that’s about 2,000 words. I’ll let you know when it goes live.
I also finished a 1,000 flash piece, which was a crime story – well out of my comfort zone, but I think it works quite well. I’ll post a link to it when I find it a home. For anyone out there stalled in their writing (so any writers then) try writing something out of your comfort zone, flash or short works best because you can take it as a small project and not have to worry if it goes horribly wrong. I think working with the unfamiliar every now and again is a good way to flex your writing muscles. It stimulates the brain in different ways, and who knows, you might even find a new genre that comes completely naturally to you!
Yes, that’s right! #amwriting
I’ve also started to get back into research mode for my current novel. I’m hoping it will kick start something and I’ll be able to get back on with the bloody thing! I’ve had too long away from it now and if I don’t force myself to go back to it soon I’ll probably just end up starting another…grrr, fickle mind!
It’s all about keeping my bum in my seat and getting on with it!
So, how are you guys doing? Hope everyone is busy.
Have fun at the end of the world tomorrow! Is anyone having a rapture party?

  1. If the world is going to end tomorrow, will it be hot? It's always hot in the movies, right. If so, I'm donding my speedos and having a barby! I may even take a photo and post it on my blog so everyone can see how spectacular I looked the day the world ended! In reality, it will be pissing down and I'll be writing…playing with the kids…cleaning etc, etc. Happy days!

  2. Now I'm worried…worried that if the world doesn’t end I'll be forever stuck with the mental image of you, in your speedos, 'having' a Barbie doll…it's going to take a lot of beer to get rid of that one!

  3. Working on a couple of short stories but the novel seems to have gone to one side at the moment – need to get that kickstarted again. I agree about getting out of your comfort zone – worked a treat for me!
Oh and no rapture party here – I shall be one of those going off to heaven – not!

  4. I really enjoyed your post – very inspiring and very funny! Thank you for that. I'm keen now to write something out of my comfort zone and see where that takes me. Looking forward to reading more of your blog. Happy writing ….

  5. Please note: this comment was pre-written and scheduled to post in the event of the End of the World actually happening.

Congratulations on the pending ezine publication and writing something outside of your comfort zone. I'd recommend any writer trying something like this to give those creative brain cells a re-charge!

  6. Exciting news. Looking forward to reading both.

I've taken a week off work to battle my novel demons. No joy so far.

  7. Good luck, ttofee. I've even put the short stories to the side for now…no time for writing at all for a while.

Thanks, Diane – Writing out of your comfort zone is pretty scary but be careful you don't get addicted. You might end up leaving your normal genre behind 😛

Cheers, Ellie. Clever thinking there on the pre-scheduled comment!

Jo, I could do with a month off just to get my head straight, never mind to battle novel demons! By the way, what makes them so novel?
